Child Protection

Founded in 1948, BICE is an organization that brings together and animates a network of stakeholders committed to promoting and defending the dignity of each child, a fully-fledged human being, subject of rights. Research, training, advocacy in order to influence public policies and field projects for children in situations of vulnerability all aim at achieving this mission. BICE priority working areas are violence against children, in particular sexual violence, education and occupational integration, training of tutors of resilience and the inclusion of children with disabilities.

The Congregation of the Christian Brothers is one of BICE founding members and De La Salle Solidarietà Internazionale is an associated member.

The International Catholic Child Bureau (BICE) published in 2014 the handbook Developing and Implementing an Internal Child Protection Policy, a guide of about a hundred pages for organizations working with children. It follows a methodological approach based on rights and resilience and it is meant to provide a practical tool to facilitate the work of trainers in the field. It also invites them to pay attention to cultural diversity in their respective areas of work and to adapt their message to country-specific contexts.
The International Catholic Child Bureau (BICE) published in 2013 Preventing Ill-Treatment and Sexual Abuse against Children – Best practices in prevention and recommendations, as the result of its collaboration with 12 partner organizations in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. It shows a common endeavor aimed at reinforcing children’s internal capabilities, raising awareness among families and communities and informing the public at large about ill-treatment. This compendium may also inspire associations and professionals fighting against ill-treatment to adapt, integrate and replicate these practices.
